The China Glaze Eye Candy collection for Winter '11 is a group of gorgeous and interesting "3D" glitters. The 3D refers to how the glitters vary in size and type making the surface of the polish look like it's several layers of glitter, one on top of the next. Some use varying sizes of similarly colored glitter and others use glitter of different finishes, effects and colors to accomplish the complex look of these polishes. Each polish individually can look very different depending on the light source and strength you view the polish in, so really they're very interesting to wear.
Lorelei's Tiara - sunlight
Lorelei's Tiara is composed of small round silver glitter and larger blue glitter. This is my favorite of the collection; it shines like a diamond in the sun and in the shade. I was struck by how much this glitters. I know it's a glitter, but it's somehow more glittery than a regular glitter. In the shade, the blue really stands out also, and the blue really makes this polish special.

Blonde Bombshell - sunlight
Blonde Bombshell is small and large golden glitter. It's the different sizes of the same color glitter together that makes this polish appear layered. In the sun the larger pieces really shine, with the golden gossamer backdrop glittering like crazy behind it. I don't usually like gold polishes, let alone glitter, on my skin, but I loved this one.

Marry a Millionaire - sunlight
Marry a Millionaire consists of small purple glitter and holographic bar glitter. This one is somewhat sheer, I used three coats here and I can still see nail. However it's really unique and interesting so it's worth the layering. The bar glitter isn't like any I've seen before; it's much finer and less chunky than most bar glitters. It's very shiny and reflective in the sun, but the lighter lavender/silver look you get from it in the shade is the best part of this polish.

Some Like it Haute - Sunlight
Some Like It Haute is a charcoal based glitter with small silver and larger, more sparse and irregular holographic glitter. It's super pretty if you are using enough of a good top coat. This one dries matte and I had to use three coats of Seche Vite to get it even close to smooth. Once the top coat sinks down into the nooks and crannies, the sparkle really dies down. That said, in low lighting when the holographic glitter appears to just be large silver chunks, it's gorgeous, and when you get into the sun, it sparkles like crazy and it's beautiful. If you've got a great top coat, go to town, this one is pretty. I think I'd like it better if it were a little darker and if it weren't so darn gritty, but it was exciting enough to wear while I was on vacation, so I suppose that's the real test. I think I'd like to layer this over a black polish and see if I'd like it better.

Material Girl - sunlight
Material Girl is similar to Blonde Bombshell in that it's got small and large glitter of the same color, but this rose colored glitter is different in that those larger glitters appear rose in most lights and in several angles, but if you catch them just the right way, you'll see that they're also holographic. It's a difficult effect to see, but it's there and it really makes the polish pop. Check out the bottle in the above pic and you'll see what I'm talking about. The only issue I had with this polish was that it was quite thick and hard to apply. The semi-boring midtone rose is really saved by that peekaboo holo glitter.

Love, Marilyn - sunlight
Love, Marilyn is a somewhat sheer polish with small red glitter and larger silver glitter. It's arrestingly beautiful in the shade, which surprised me, because you'd expect that it would be most beautiful in the sun. It's a stunner all around, but it's my opinion that it's most beautiful in the shade. It would be especially beautiful layered over an opaque red creme or glitter.

Overall, this is a super cool collection of glitters. They're just as awesome as you'd expect a China Glaze glitter to be, though I definitely prefer Lorelei's Tiara, Love Marilyn, and Some like It Haute. The concept of 3D glitter is intriguing and I'm not surprised to see China Glaze leading that charge.
