Valentine's Day is my favorite holiday for getting girly, so here are a dozen of Beautopia's picks for the best nail polish for that special night.
OPI Mod About You - Not only is the name super appropriate, the color feels like it was made for Valentine's. The light, white-based pink is so light it's almost a bright. Very mod, and very romantic, the application is wonderful and nearly perfect. Love this one.
China Glaze For Audrey would be a cheeky shade to wear on one of the most popular days for engagements. This Tiffany blue might come off as presumptuous, so proceed with caution.
Another sweet candy-heart-shade that is soft and flirtatious, China Glaze Agent Lavender will look polished without distracting from your lash batting. The formula on this pastel stunner is definitely nice, and it's just so crisp.
For the babe who wants a little shimma in her life, SpaRitual Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds, named after one of my favorite tunes, is a delicate gossamer-like layer for the nails. Your true color will shine through so be sure to take care of any staining with a color-correcting base coat (I like Color Club Milky Base Coat) or soak in a little denture cleaner. Yes, I'm serious.
The ol' standby: the french manicure. Nothing looks more refined, and it's a great look so as not to detract from your new engagement ring (we can hope, right?). This one was done with a coat of Color Club Milky White Base coat, OPI Desire for tips, and Essie Vanity Fair for the base.
Ooh, it's starting to get a bit wild in here! Hot pink says, "I'm romantic and girly, but I only seem tame on the outside." OPI DC Cherry Blossom is an amazing vivid pink with a hint of warmth, but it still packs a punch.
A new fave of mine, China Glaze Heli-yum from the new Up & Away collection, (view my swatches here), is a great, less severe, alternative to red. It's a deep sweet pink that straddles the line between fun and sophisticated.
Red glittah. mmmm. OPI Smitten with Mittens is a deep rich slightly cool red filled to the brim with warm gold and red microglitter that is so beautiful, it might make it hard to concentrate on your sweetheart.
For the traditionalist, creme reds are a no-brainer. They're classic and daring at the same time. I recommend OPI Malaga Wine (used here), and OPI Got the Blues For Red
For a funky, quirky vibe, these Claire's Chunky Glitter range of polishes are awesome. Compared to similar high-end polishes, they're a steal and are on-par quality-wise. This is Chunky Purple, and you can see Chunky Blue here. I love the deep pink/purple base, which reminds me of Zoya Roxy, the ultimate party polish.
Deep aubergine, every drugstore brand has one, but OPI Lincoln Park After Dark is the original. This is the epitome of vixen polishes, and it's truly for the naughty valentine.
Dark, yet playful, Lippmann Ruby Red Slippers is an enigma. With a black base and small square/large hexagonal red glitter, each nail is unique and almost a work of art. This reminds me of sexy lace and could be pulled off by just about anyone. I applied this over a black nail polish base as the base of Ruby Red Slippers is somewhat sheer.
What are your favorite Valentine's polishes? What nail look will you be wearing? I'm thinking of doing a konadicure with roses... or Ruby Red Slippers ;P
