For August's box, I went with American Beauty. Mainly this is because I was really curious about the "Rose Gold Metallic Chrome." I already have tried and loved a few other coppery/rose gold metallics like Essie Penny Talk, CND Copper Chrome and even (more on the copper side) SH Haute Chocolate, but why not try them all! *evil laugh* The truth is that there aren't many of that type of shade, so it was worth a try. Also, in this month's box was a really pretty gunmetal with some golden shards, and an acetone-free remover pump which actually turned out to be pretty awesome, and a reusable tote. If you're interested in trying Julep Maven, you can read about it here. If you want to join, you can do so on the Julep website. You can also use my referral link which will give me credit toward future purchases, and it would make my day as I love these boxes. If you order, please don't forget to use the code COLOR2012 and you can get your first box for a PENNY, $.01, with free shipping.
Dakota: "Rose Gold Metallic Chrome" - This is like a metallic orange/rose hybrid. It's sort of midtone, and is more a pearl than a chrome, but on someone with much darker skin than mine would look amazing with this polish. I'm more interested in the possibility of using this in some awesome Fall nail art, because it looks a lot more metallic when used in small doses to counteract the slight brushstrokeyness (what?) of the polish.
Stefani: "Gold-flecked Grey Metallic" - This one was pretty gorgeous. I'm a big fan of gunmetal polish and the addition of a small amount of miniscule golden shards makes this kinda special I suppose. It got a great reception at work the other day, several clients picked it up and eyed it, even though most opted for more summery looks in the end.
Overall, I was pretty happy with this month's box. The remover, though supposedly acetone-free, removed my polish quicker than my usual (the big purple bottle from Walmart), but it did have that slight oily-yet-dry feeling you get with those "natural" or soy removers, or even to a certain extent Zoya Remove. It worked as well as Zoya's I'd say, which is my favorite remover to date. It seems to be somewhat expensive if you actually buy it a la carte from the site... $14 or 11.20 for Mavens. Obviously the two polishes and the remover cost me $19.99 but the retail value if you were to get it at Sephora or something you'd pay $42, so it's a good deal to me. I also added on Sienna for $4.99 which is obviously also a great deal

Julep also does "Mystery Boxes" some months in addition to the regular Maven box, and this month is the first time I purchased one. I was pretty stoked to receive it and I was pretty happy with what I got. I will post swatches next week, but I'll show you a sneak peek of what I got. Also, the September box is so exciting as there is a collaboration with Trina Turk and the colors are fabulous. I ordered Bombshell, though it was a hard time deciding between that, Boho Glam, and It Girl. I also ordered Otte as an add-on because it's a really weird nude shade. Love those. ALSO, there is a mascara in this month's box. I die. Love trying new mascaras.
