Dollar Store Steals - L'Oreal Blue Metal

Recently I found this gorgeousness at Dollar Tree in a duopack with some horrific bronzey peach sheer shimmer. Technically, I paid .50 cents for this polish, but I threw the other polish away, so let's call it a whole whopping dollar. Anyhoo, this incredibly vibrant medium-to-deep blue is amazing, and the shimmer is that sort of shimmer that is so fine but stops short of frost. Think China Glaze Frostbite, but a bit deeper. The formula on this was super watery, but it was pretty pigmented. I applied three coats and there was a bit of cuticle drag, so I let it dry quite a long time in between coats; about 5 minutes. Overall, the polish is unbelievably gorgeous and I'd consider it worth the time stopping into your local Dollar Tree to see what's what because mine had several of this shade.

Have you tried this polish? Is it an old fave? What do you think of it? Click if you'd like to see a couple more photos!

OPI Designer Series Nail Polish in Mystery

OPI DS Mystery - $7 at transdesign.com

I adore the OPI Designer Series line of polishes. While it's true that most of them are holographic, even if it's just a bit, there are a few that aren't holo but are just plain cool. DS Royal is one of those, and Mystery is another. I've been debating over Mystery for some time and I finally just bought it off eBay. I got mine for about $10 total including shipping, so basically less than retail if you were to get it at Ulta or some such place. The polish is a bit different than I imagined from the bottle, and I haven't seen (or really looked for online swatches for) it so I was a little surprised. It's a lot more opaque than I thought it would be with all that shimmer in the bottle. The first coat reveals that the base is a very deep blue-toned purple with some translucent large shimmer particles. The weird part about this polish is that inside in indirect light the shimmer is gorgeous! It's like lots of autumnal green-gold and brown shimmer running through the base. Then you go outside and half the shimmer disappears and blends into the base but there's a little bit of copper-toned shimmer peeking out. I only really like this polish when it's not in indirect light. I think this would be a lot better for the winter months when there isn't much sun. This polish didn't blow me away, but it's got some nice qualities.
