Brisa Lite is a new range from CND that works well with both Shellac and Vinylux, which are the systems I use in she shop. It's an enhancement, but lite! When you think of an enhancement, you think of acrylics, and maybe hard gels. The inconvenient truth here is that enhancements are really desirable because they make your nails look perfect, but the downside is that they can be damaging and it's hard to break the cycle even when you realize you'd rather just have your own natural nails. I have really been loving Brisa Lite with Shellac, Vinylux and traditional polish clients alike. The reason is that it gives them the needed strength and reinforcement that they need to grow out their natural nails and keep them in great shape.

Brisa Lite is like Shellac and hard gel or acrylic had a baby. It applies like an enhancement, but instead of having to "drill" or file it off, it soaks off just like Shellac.

There are two kinds:
Smoothing, which will add a layer of smooth protection and added reinforcement to your nail before applying Shellac, Vinylux or traditional polish. And.

Sculpting which can be used to add length. You can actually backfill Brisa Lite Sculpting just like acrylic, or you can soak them off after a couple weeks once you get some length to your underlying natural nail. It's also really good for special occasions where you want length but don't want to commit to acrylics.

Currently, I am only offering Brisa Lite Smoothing. It is clear and can be used alone or under your favorite Shellac or Vinylux shade or the nail color of your choice, and it actually enhances wear of all of the above!

Brisa Lite Smoothing Gel is for you if:

  • You want Shellac-like smoothness and strength but want to change your nail color more than once in two weeks
  • You have damaged nails that you want to grow out post-acrylic
  • Your nails are weak, peeling or prone to breakage
  • You'd like your nail color to last longer

If you've gotten Brisa Lite Smoothing Gel with Vinylux or traditional polish on top, you can use acetone-free nail polish remover to remove the color at home without disturbing the Brisa Lite underneath. You will start to get some lifting if you change your polish more than twice, or if you're pretty liberal with the remover.

Pricing:
Manicure with Brisa Lite Smoothing Gel - $35
Vinylux Manicure with Brisa Lite Smoothing Gel - $40
Shellac Manicure with Brisa Lite Smoothing Gel - $45

If you're about to schedule an appointment with me, or you're just wondering what CND Vinylux is, let me tell you all about it!

You've probably already heard of the other groundbreaking CND invention, Shellac Power Polish, and this is every bit as exciting. Where Shellac will give you two weeks of chip-free wear, Vinylux will usually give you at least 7 days. This may seem like a downgrade, but consider the fact that it applies and removes just like regular polish. You don't have to soak it off at all. Which means you can change your nail color in between your manicure appointments, or just enjoy a longer period of time without chipping till you see your manicurist again.

CND Vinylux may work well for you if:

  • You have natural nails
  • You like traditional polish but want to stay chip-free for more than a few days
  • You like long-lasting color but don't want to keep the same color for 2 weeks
  • You have issues keeping traditional polish and/or Shellac on

Here's why Vinylux lasts:
Even though there is no basecoat in the Vinylux system, there are adhesion promoters in the color coat itself. Additionally, the special Vinylux topcoat has a thing called ProLight Technology which is not only fast drying via indoor ambient lighting alone, it also has time-enhanced strengthening which just means the longer it's on, the tougher and more resistant to scratches and chips it is. The cross-polymer linkage is just more intense than regular polish, which is just another way of saying, it's pretty rad. I have had Vinylux stay perfectly on clients who, for some reason, couldn't even keep Shellac on.

You can actually purchase Vinylux from the salon, too, which is great because you can change your color in between manicure appointments, or if the unthinkable happens and you actually do get a chip, you can pop a bit on and camouflage it perfectly until you have time to do your nails again. I've had wonderful feedback on this product from clients so far, especially when used over an overlay of CND Brisa Lite Smoothing Gel. That way they get the smoothing and strengthening properties they like from Shellac, but they can still change their polish when they want without disturbing the gel underneath.

Pricing:
CND Vinylux Manicure - $30
CND Vinylux Manicure over CND Brisa Lite Smoothing Gel - $40
Vinylux Color (retail bottle) - $9.90
Vinylux Top Coat (retail bottle) - $9.90

If you're a new client, you may not have had the distinct pleasure of hearing me harp on and on about the advantages of CND Shellac. If that's the case, let me help you out. You might be reading this article trying to decide which service you should schedule with me at Beautopia Nails, and I hope that this will help you out.

CND Shellac is a great system for you if:

  • You have natural nails
  • You have thin or weak nails
  • Your nails peel
  • You hate when your polish chips
  • You want your nail color to last longer
  • You are trying to recover healthy nails after acrylic removal
  • You want more bang for your buck

Application info:

CND Shellac applies much like traditional polish, but each coat is cured under a UV lamp. This semi-hard coating stays shiny, resists chips and scratches, and stays generally fabulous for 10-14 days. Lots of fantastic art elements can be used with Shellac making it a no-brainer. I've been using it as my sole soak-off-gel system for nearly two years and I adore it. Unlike other systems, there is no need to buff the shine from the natural nail before application or after removal. Additionally, removal is simple and doesn't require the bowl of acetone so many new clients tell me about experiencing. A gentle, nourishing remover is applied directly to the color for a period of 10 minutes and the loosened product is gently coaxed off with a orangewood stick. If you have natural nails in any shape whatsoever, this is a great system for you.

There are other gel systems, namely OPI GelColor and Gelish among others, and I have tried most of them. I have tested them pretty extensively, and while some of the other guys' colors are great, overall CND Shellac is the one I choose to continue to invest in due to it's amazing ease of use and high level of client satisfaction. Even if you're not coming to me for your Shellac, make sure it's actually CND Shellac you're getting from your manicurist.

If you have any questions about CND Shellac or any other system or product, please feel free to email me at beautopianails@gmail.com or ask me when you make your next appointment. I'd love to talk your ear off about it!!

I've had a lot of fun over the last few weeks with clients. A lot of them are really embracing more adventurous nails, and while I still do my most obnoxious and involved stuff on myself, I'm slowly seeing a lot of my clients venture towards that end of the spectrum and I'm so excited. Below I'll show you six clients' nails and tell you what I used.

CND Shellac Nail Art - Mermaid Chic, Two Ways

Recently, CND released five new Shellac shades for Spring, one of which was Limeade. I used it, along with Hotski to Tchotchke, nail foils, additives, and studs to make these two very related Spring Break nail looks.

For the one above, I used Limeade, nail art foil in Lime Glitter and Capri Blue metal studs from dollarnailart.com on the green nails, Hotski to Tchotchke and Pacific Blue foil on the teal nails.

Below I used the same combinations with the addition of a third type of nail. For the tie-dye effect nails I used CND Shellac Cream Puff plus Blue and Yellow additives.

I was really pleased with both of these, they looked very mermaid-y, and they wore super well. The above ones are actually my nails, and I wore them for nearly two weeks on vacation. The suncreen, sand and salt water would have destroyed my nails and any regular polish, but the Shellac was still shiny when I got home. It was kind of crazy.

Prismatic Purples with CND Shellac
I did this look a couple weeks ago for my trip to NYC! I used CND Shellac in Purple Purple and some violet holographic transfer foils and the end result was a very color-saturated and multi-dimensional look.

Tie-Dye Nail Art with CND Shellac
Did a new manicure for Kelsey today using CND Shellac in Rock Royalty and CND Additives. Sorry for infrequent posting recently. I'll be posting several more of my more recent manicures within the next few days, but probably with just a blurb about the products. If you have any questions about the look, feel free to message or tweet me!

Sorry for the lack of posting recently! I have been crazy busy, like most of you, because of the holidays and work, and so many other things and time just gets away from me. I do try to regularly post something on my new(ish) Instagram, so be sure to follow that. Maybe even check out my Facebook page because all my Instagram, Twitter and Tumblr posts also go there. Anyway, I haven't gotten the chance to do some good old fashioned nail art with regular polish recently because I'm wearing a lot of Shellac, but I do still try to fancy up the Shellac manicures a bit.

This particular manicure features Shellac in Cityscape (light dove grey) and Overtly Onyx (shimmering charcoal) along with some silver small round studs, double-c studs, double-c water transfers and some simple dotting with Cityscape to resemble pearls. A very simple manicure for the week of Thansgiving that was pretty quick to do but still looks pretty cute, I think.
