I'm telling you, the best thing I EVER did was shape my nails differently. For my entire life I've had square nails, and I always loved them and could never imagine my nails in another shape, but I got a wild hair and decided I wanted to try it. As they're growing, I refine the shape often trying to coax the tips into soft points, and I'm really enjoying them. There are so many nail designs that suit oval and pointed nails that never look right with squares like half-moons for instance, but now I'm enjoying the experimentation.

Anyway, for this look I used Sparitual Paradigm for the base color. It's a very thin and milky cream color and it makes the nails look perfect, even when underneath they may look like total crap. Ahem. Like my stained little claws, for example. Believe it or not, beneath Sparitual Paradigm and a coat of Color Club Milky White Base Coat, my nails are a disturbing shade of ear wax. This color is awesome, it's like the Spanx of the nail world. Then I used CND Copper Chrome to highlight the very tips and base of the nails. The result is almost like jewelry for the nails. I loved this.

Products used:

  • Color Club Milky White base coat
  • Sparitual Paradigm
  • CND Copper Chrome
  • Seche Vite topcoat

The Hunger Games Nail Art Series - District 3

For the third installment in my Hunger Games nail art series, I continued on with the districts. This time it's District 3 which we know from the books is mainly and electronics. For this nail set I did a circuit board, some random holographic based lightning bolts, some bright blinky light thing and then lastly the 3 for the district done in a digital style. It's a really abstract interpretation of the district, but I thought it was colorful and fun, and definitely felt sort of electronic-y.

Products used:

  • GOSH Holographic
  • Wet n Wild Black Creme
  • OPI Who the Shrek are You?
  • Sparitual Yes I Can
  • China Glaze 2030
  • China Glaze Purple Panic
  • CND Anchor Blue
  • OPI Rinse Charming
  • OPI Roll in the Hague

Nail Art Inspired by Vera Bradley Plum Petals

Plum Petals is one of the new patterns released by Vera Bradley for Fall 2011, and it's gorgeous. It reminds me a little of another of my favorite patterns, Purple Punch. I love the purples and the brown with the cream and grass colors and the flowers are so pretty, so I wanted to try to do something similar on my nails. It turned out quite different than the original and I think that if I did it again, I'd leave out the white vines and green leaves and just do the purple flowers and purple leaf, but otherwise I liked this quite a bit.

I used Zoya Angelina as the base with OPI A Grape Fit, China Glaze Urban-Night, Sparitual Yes I Can and some white acrylic paint for the design.

Sparitual A World of Compassion - $10 at apothica.com

From Sparitual's new-ish Imagine collection, this is a really unique sort of indescribable shade. It's not quite periwinkle, it's not quite lavender. There's some purple, blue and some sort of beige in the base that makes it sort of earthy and casual while still managing to make a sound. On beigey skin tones this is going to be amazing. I'm a big fan of the periwinkle, friends, and so this sucker is a big fave for me. It applies pretty standard for the handful of Sparituals I've tried in my day. The creme formula are usually slightly streaky on the first coat but are luxuriously even and creamy on the second, and this is on par. The color itself makes this a must-buy for me, and so if you enjoy the shade, I recommend it. I did a couple comparisons with well-known periwinkles and a lavender for what they're worth after the jump, but even though these are the closest shades I think I might have, none come close. If you have an idea for a polish that might be similar, let me know and I'll check the stash and see if I can do a comparison.

Index to pinkie: Sparitual Strawberry Fields Forever, OPI Senorita Rose-alita, China Glaze Strawberry Fields, China Glaze Pink-Rox-E

Sparitual Strawberry Fields Forever: OK, so I have a weakness for Beatles references AND pink polishes with gold shimmer, whateva. This Sparitual is really gorgeous, it's a bit darker and cooler than the others, and the golden shimmer itself is a good bit warmer. It's decently pigmented and, let's face it, the bottle is pretty cool.

OPI Senorita Rose-alita: This is the one with a finish closest to a frost, but the rose shade with a golden overlay of fine shimmer is just amazing. Of the top three shades, this might be the most "wearable" for the office.

China Glaze Strawberry Fields: Ah, the Beatles again. I love it. This polish is so pigmented and gorgeous and the gold glass-fleck shimmer in the amazing sweet raspberry base is just insane. I love this polish. It's my favorite of the bunch.

China Glaze Pink-Rox-E: ooh she's kinda pastel, and it puts off a sort of peachy vibe the way the golden glass-fleck shimmer takes over the nail. I love the light, soft shade and I'm a huge fan of China Glaze's glass-fleck shimmer, but this one isn't as "me" as the others.
