In the "Reaping" scene in the new Hunger Games movie, Effie Trinket wears a pretty and interesting nail look while she's drawing out the tributes' names. It's a sort of dark rose with a gold metallic sponged halfway down. It's such a simple and cute look to try to replicate, but I decided I wanted something slightly more blingy, so I did a different variation using a couple China Glaze polishes.

Not a whole lot is said about District 5 in the books, so there's not a lot to go on. However, we do know that it's the district responsible for power. Powering the entire country? No idea, but I would assume so since that's their main "export." For this nail set I tried to represent power in a very general sense, and also in some particular ways. For instance, the three-prong plug is pretty self-explanatory and somewhat general. The nuclear sign is pretty specific. I'm assuming since Panem has nuclear capabilities (District 13) that they would also use nuclear power. For the index (district badge) finger, I represented hydro-electric power with holographic teal, foily silver and a shimmery blue in waving lines. The ring finger is a holographic charcoal with vaguely electricity-themed stripes and the pinky is the District 5 polish from the China Glaze Hunger Games collection, which seemed very fitting and is very blingy and excellent on it's own.

I haven't been so excited about a nail polish collection before in my LIFE. I am a huge Hunger Games fan if you didn't know already, and the marriage of some of my favorite books and my favorite nail polish company is so awesome. I am dying waiting for this damn movie, I'm serious. Anyway, I went and grabbed the collection today at CosmoProf and did some swatches. This is a diverse collection full of color, texture, and awesome.

I have to tell you, doing this series is so much fun so far. It's a fun challenge for myself. Though there's very little information in the books about some of the districts, which will make it a little challenging, I think it's fun to come up with something for each one. I plan on making my way through the districts in order and then I have some other designs based on The Hunger Games I'll be adding to the series. In the end, the series will hopefully be pretty sizeable. In the meantime, it's a lot of fun. On to the description!
District 4 in The Hunger Games is home to a ocean-based society. They make fish hooks, they use nets and tridents to fish, and overall it's a somewhat wealthy district. To reflect this rich ocean culture I painted the nails with sea greens, coral red for the, um, red coral, and gave it some gilded accents to reflect the fact that this district is a bit more rich.

For the third installment in my Hunger Games nail art series, I continued on with the districts. This time it's District 3 which we know from the books is mainly and electronics. For this nail set I did a circuit board, some random holographic based lightning bolts, some bright blinky light thing and then lastly the 3 for the district done in a digital style. It's a really abstract interpretation of the district, but I thought it was colorful and fun, and definitely felt sort of electronic-y.

For the second installment in my Hunger Games nail art series, I did nails based on District 2. In the books, that district is described as having several principal functions; it is home to stone cutters, it supplies the majority of Peacekeepers, they manufacture weapons, and the snow-capped mountain housing the military nervecenter called "The Nut" by the rebels. So in this nail set you see The Nut, the district number, elements of a Peacekeeper uniform as shown in movie trailers, a stone wall, and a gun silhouette. All elements are hand painted.

In honor of the soon-to-be-released movie version of The Hunger Games, I decided I want to do a nail art series based on the books. The first book actually makes a reference to nail art, when Katniss' prep team paints flame designs on her nails, and while re-reading the books this latest time in anticipation of the film I decided it would be crazy not to do a series.
The first installment is based on District 1, the district that produces luxury items for The Capitol
